Anna Barker is a Researcher and Project Assistant at Levin Sources. She provides capacity and support on a wide range of projects, helping deliver accurate, insightful and timely results to public and private sector clients.
Anna works primarily on projects related to the responsible sourcing of minerals, supply chain due diligence and better business practices within the gems and jewellery industry. Through practical experience and desk and field-based research, Anna is knowledgeable of the challenges and barriers to better business clients face. By applying this knowledge, she is able to make commercially astute decisions that drive projects forward.
Anna has strong skills in qualitative and quantitative data collection and analysis, environmental and commercial impact assessments, context-specific research and project management. She has desk-based research experience in the artisanal and small-scale gold and gemstone mining sectors of Colombia, Mali, Mongolia, Myanmar, and Tanzania, and completed fieldwork in Senegal, working in Dakar and undertaking research at a gold mine in Kedougou.
During her time at Levin Sources, Anna has assisted with developing a Code of Ethics for a jewellery company, built qualitative equations to assess the environmental impacts of gem mining, worked on and implemented the communications strategy for the GIFF Project and helped develop a child labour risk assessment methodology.
Anna is a key member the Organising Committee of FLUX: Fair Luxury – an annual event to bring together pioneers and changemakers in the responsible jewellery industry, helping advance the ethical agenda in the wider jewellery world. She is also a Project Manager for the Better Business Steering Group of the National Association of Jewellers.
Anna is currently working part time on an MSc International Migration and Public Policy at London School of Economics. Her dissertation is an exploration of migration in artisanal diamond mining in Sierra Leone. She also hold a Bachelor’s degree in History from University College London.
Anna works in English and French. She is based at Levin Sources, Cambridge.
