The minerals and metals sector is complex. It’s tough for leaders who must constantly navigate evolving compliance and socio-political environments and shifting consumer and supplier markets. In today’s dynamic operating reality, board members risk making the wrong decisions on sustainability strategies they don’t fully understand; the procurement team might struggle to identify and manage supply chain risks – unless they receive the right training.

The Levin Sources team understands these challenges because we deal with them every day. We train your teams so you can be confident in their sustainability ambitions, make better decisions, improve stakeholder relationships and develop more effective risk management, impact and commercial strategies.

That’s how we designed our training offering. Forget about generic ESG or sustainability courses, our training sessions:

  • are anchored in our years of experience working directly with mineral value chain stakeholders, whether an artisanal miner or the chair of the board, supporting due diligence implementation and navigating the complexities of mineral supply chains;
  • are adapted to your specific objectives and unique needs
  • combine practical case studies with framing information, so problem-solving becomes easier.

Depending on what you need, we can deliver it in-person, online or on-demand.

Our training builds confidence, competence and commitment to better business for miners, mineral offtakers, industry associations, their professional services providers, and more. What could we do for you?

Here’s what we’ve been training people in lately:

Inspiring an offshore professional services company to stretch its sustainability ambition (2025)

Working in partnership with the firm’s in-house sustainability team and a regenerative economy expert, we trained the board on what it could look like for a legal and financial services organisation to put sustainability at the heart of its vision and mission moving beyond a first generation paradigm of corporate social responsibility through the responsible business conduct paradigm towards driving regenerative economies through the unique flexibility that offshore jurisdictions can offer business.

Transformative training in artisanal and small-scale mining management to a metals streamer (2025)

Levin Sources delivered a training on ASM to the executive team of a precious metals streamer to support them with their environmental and human rights due diligence (EHRDD). Leadership now has the knowledge to inform their EHRDD ambition and use their leverage to support the sustainable development of the ASM sector beyond their immediate responsible business conduct responsibilities.

By the end of the two online sessions, participants

  • Understood how ASM is relevant to their investments and prospects, and that engaging with ASM in line with international leading practice on responsible business conduct is important for the company and its stakeholders (including ASM communities) as a pathway to managing risk and building trust and corporate value;
  • Knew the core elements of ASM engagement and risk management and key considerations in implementing measures to control risk whilst supporting the sustainable development of the ASM sector; and,
  • Specifically for the ESG team, they could evaluate their function’s current approach to dealing with ASM issues and begin to consider how to adjust that approach to competently do due diligence on the quality of their business partners’ ASM management.

Training to an industry association on environmental due diligence (2024)

As part of the Cobalt Learning Group, Levin Sources designed and delivered in-person training for Cobalt Institute corporate members on how to do environmental due diligence, based on the role we had played supporting the OECD to develop its Handbook for Environmental Due Diligence in Minerals Value Chains. The training included interactive scenarios and exercises and was designed to enable participants to understand environmental due diligence step-by-step, in order to support its implementation and integration into other due diligence and risk management efforts within the business.

Capacity building in human rights for a procurement team (2024)

Levin Sources planned and delivered human rights training to the procurement staff of an international gold miner with operations across four continents to enhance their knowledge in human rights concepts related to human rights due diligence, specifically in supply chains and to support regulatory compliance in the jurisdiction of their headquarters.

One-on-one and small group coaching on responsible minerals and due diligence (ongoing)

We regularly work with a range of clients from sectors including mining, mobility, consumer goods and financial services providing tailored one-on-one or small-group coaching on a variety of topics. In this thought partnership model, we focus on regular office hours calls between clients and our senior experts where we address tricky questions, key knowledge gaps, and sensitive dynamics within the business or in its value chain. We complement verbal exchanges with written feedback on drafts of strategies, risk assessments, policies, and other internal documents that clients are developing. By ‘accompanying’ clients through the day-to-day delivery of responsible business, we build their own capacity to deliver effectively over time.
